My mother has had Parry Romberg Syndrome ever since i can remember, so I never really noticed it as very different. It wasn't until grade school when a girl asked me what was wrong with my mom's face that i began to realize she was different. My mom having this disfiguring disease has never bothered me much, but in a country where "perfection" is key, someone with a disfigurement is an outcast. I took this photo trying to imagine how my mom feels, as if she is hiding behind a mask.
