This piece is about TRANSFORMATION.  Of course, the butterfly represents morphing into something beautiful and the effort that it takes to do that.  Also, I used the form and shape of the lotus petal that grows in beauty from the muck!  This has powerful symbolism to me.  It reminds me that despite what I have or don't have, because of what I cope with and deal with, I can still grow and develop beautifully!
