Meet Pat Guerre

2016 Rare Artist Contest Awardee and Caregiver

When Pat’s wife Gina was hospitalized from complications from rare diseases (complex regional pain syndrome), he painted hearts and hung them on the walls to help cheer her. His gesture became a movement as Pat painted more and more hearts, sending them to patients around the world to let them know that they are not alone and there is hope.

In 2016, Pat submitted one of his heart paintings to the Rare Artist Contest and was named an awardee and invited to Washington, D.C. for the Rare Artist Reception during Rare Disease Week. The experience had a profound effect on Pat, inspiring him to start a nonprofit organization called Kneading Hope to raise awareness about rare diseases and to support caregivers.

Through his nonprofit, the Kneading Hope team began raising funds to provide art sets to children diagnosed with rare diseases in collaboration with organizations like Avery’s Hope and other patients and caregivers.

Whether he’s helping caregivers or patients, Pat’s message is “You are loved. You are important. You are not forgotten.”
